Dear Parents,
Colourwoods Montessori Kinderhaus GmbH was founded in 2004 in Zumikon. In February 2011 we moved our location to Poststrasse 25 in 8700 Küsnacht.
We are a bilingual school working with a maximum of 17 children consisting of three qualified teachers; two english speakers and one German speaker. Three of us are Montessori certified. Our certified English teacher works in addition with the Oxford Reading Tree and Jolly Phonics. On Thursdays, we have a creative dance teacher working with the children.
The children learn in a Montessori prepared environment gently guided by native English and German speakers. Our environment is designed to be developmentally responsive. The children learn by touching, exploring and doing things by and for themselves. We use children sized furniture and equipment with specially designed Montessori materials for math, language and practical life activities. In the Montessori classroom, students choose activities from the environment and work at their own pace, alone, or in small or large groups. Independence is a key element of Montessori philosophy.

Language
When the children are ready we introduce literacy in both English and German.
Nature
The children play in the park daily and on Tuesdays they explore the natural environment in a nearby forest, weather permitting. We recognize Mother Nature as a teacher who helps us develop love and respect for life and the natural world in our students.
Parents
Close cooperation between teachers and parents creates an important foundation.
Age groups
We are an independent Kindergarten, accepting children from 3 years to 6.5 years of age, with our primary aim in preparing them for primary school. We help them discover the wonderful world of learning and becoming more and more independent through the freedom of choice in a Montessori classroom.
Preperation
Since May 2009 we are an Official Private Kindergarten recognized by the Kanton of Zurich BID, that allows your child to do all their Kindergarten years here. They learn different themes, reading, writing, math, arts & crafts and culture in preparing them for primary school. They also learn English and German simultaneously.
